Did you know that your home’s HVAC system can affect how well you sleep at night? Although this sounds surprising, it is a fact. Many people enjoy sleeping in a cold room even in the winter, because it is just so much more soothing, especially when you pile on the blankets. Let’s find out how you can get more rest at night and feel ready to face the next morning!
Staying Cool
As we mentioned above, staying cool helps you sleep better at night. Your body temperature drops when you sleep because this helps you to relax. Overheating keeps you from sleeping comfortably. If you tend to wake up in the morning covered in sweat, then this might be the reason why. Instead, turn down the settings on your thermostat. Anywhere between 60 and 67 degrees is preferable. Although it doesn’t sound possible, it is actually easier to do this in the winter months than it is over the summer.
Dealing with Humidity
The humidity in your home can also affect how you sleep. Even if you are taking a short nap, the humidity and indoor air quality can keep you from falling asleep or waking up feeling refreshed. But your home’s HVAC system can help fix that. Avoid the temptation to dehumidify the room and draw all the moisture out, because a room that’s too dry can be just as uncomfortable to sleep in! That’s why adjusting your HVAC unit and experimenting with humidifiers and dehumidifiers can help you find the balance that you need.
Fans Make the Difference
Whether you have ceiling fans or room fans, they can both make a positive difference. Air is being circulated, which helps you settle down and breathe easier. The fans also provide some white noise to help you unwind and turn off your brain. If you don’t have any smartphone apps for that purpose, then this is how you can still do it, especially if you don’t want to oversleep and miss your alarm!
