When to Replace Your Home Air Conditioner

When to Replace Your Home Air Conditioner

Find out when you should be replacing your home air conditioner.

Your home air conditioner is a vital component of your house. Keeping the temperature of your home well-regulated is necessary to ensure that people are kept comfortable. There will come a time, however, when it’s necessary to replace the HVAC unit you have. So, how will you know when it’s the right time? Find out when you should be replacing your home air conditioner.

Your Air Conditioner Has Gotten Old

Typically, a home air conditioner will last anywhere between 10 and 15 years. If your unit has reached or surpassed that lifespan, you can expect issues to arise as a result of general wear and tear. By getting a new HVAC unit, you can set yourself up with a unit that won’t be worn down. Instead, the new air conditioner you get will be more effective than your previous one.

You’re Not Getting Cool Air

You’ll know that something’s wrong with your home air conditioner when it’s not putting out cool air for your house. Perhaps you’ve noticed warm air coming out instead of cool air. In this situation, your unit might just be low on refrigerant.

Sometimes, however, the problem could be more serious. For example, if your HVAC unit’s compressor ends up dying on you, you’ll probably have to replace your entire unit.

Your Energy Bills Are Going Up Unexpectedly

Your home air conditioner uses a certain amount of energy to keep your house cool. This results in an energy bill that should be relatively consistent throughout the year. You can expect this bill to go up during summer, since you’ll use your air conditioner more often. Likewise, your bills should go down in winter when you’re not using it.

If you notice a sudden increase in your energy bill, however, and there’s seemingly no particular reason for this to be the case, there could be something wrong with your HVAC unit that’s causing it to work harder than normal. By getting a new home air conditioner, you can get your energy bills back to normal, saving yourself money in the long run.
