Now that spring is here you will want to get started on some spring cleaning. Open up all your windows and ventilate, letting in that fresh air. Once you’ve aired out your home, you might be curious how air balancing can make a difference. So here are some tips for how to use it to your advantage.
What Is It?
We need to look at what air balancing is. This involves modifying your HVAC system to ensure that enough air is spread out throughout your home. However, it’s not something that every homeowner can or should try. If you’re not convinced that you can do it safely, then you might be better off waiting for assistance from an HVAC technician. This is to make sure that your home has heat in the right spots and air conditioning where it needs to be.
Open and Close Register
Start by opening and closing the register. On days with warmer weather, you should open the registers. On spring days that aren’t as warm, close the registers instead. For best results, your thermostat should be between 76 and 78 degrees. Don’t change the temperature for a day or so. Close vents in colder spots and open vents that are too warm. Then give it a day before you check to see this is what you wanted.
Change the Thermostat
Depending on the model of the thermostat and the HVAC system that you have, you might be able to set different temperatures throughout the house. Consider making the upstairs warmer than downstairs. However, the difference between the floors should only be about two degrees.
Clean the Filters
Now that you’ve done the other steps clean out the filters. Your HVAC system could be dirty. Putting in new filters will help make a difference. It makes your air quality better; it makes heating and cooling more efficient; keeps your HVAC system running longer; and will also help you save money on your energy bills.
