Keeping your home’s HVAC unit running smoothly can be tricky enough even when you don’t have pets. But when you have pets in your home, you need to do a little extra to make sure everything works properly. Here’s what you can do.
Change the Filters
Changing the filters is one of the quickest and easiest ways to keep your HVAC running normally. Look at the filter and see if it needs to be replaced. When you have pets that shed hair or fur, it can get stuck in the filter and hinder or disrupt the air flow. This means it needs to work harder to distribute the air that circulates around your home.
Keep Your Home Clean
The next step is to keep your home as clean as possible. Although it can be tough to find time and motivation after a long day at work, removing as much dust and pet dander as you can from your home can go a long way toward helping your HVAC unit function well.
Clean the Ducts
If you are concerned about the way your home smells, there could be something wrong with the ducts behind the walls. This is a sign you need to clean your air ducts. Consult an HVAC technician on what you should do – especially if they need to inspect the ducts for any problems. Your ducts should be totally cleaned out by a professional every few years to ensure proper function.
Put Up a Fence
Your HVAC unit is probably outside your home. If this is the case, then you should put a fence around your outdoor HVAC unit. This will prevent your curious pets from playing with it or damaging it in any way.
