Taking care of your air conditioner isn’t always easy to do. However, with the weather outside starting to warm up, there’s no time like the present. You can do some basic troubleshooting with the right guides in hand before a professional arrives to handle more complicated AC maintenance-related tasks. What are some issues you might run into, and how can you overcome them, at least for the time being? Read on and find out more!
Change the Thermostat’s Settings
The first fix you can try is to change the settings on the thermostat. The thermostat is one of the fundamental components of your AC unit. It is also, by extension, how you can control your home’s HVAC system as a whole. This situation could be why you aren’t receiving cooler air, so investigate it first before resorting to other AC maintenance methods.
Swap Out Older Batteries
At some point, your home’s smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors will need new batteries. The same goes for your thermostat. Thermostat batteries can die eventually, especially when they are subjected to continual overuse. When the thermostat doesn’t have a steady supply of power, it can no longer monitor the air conditioner’s status.
Take Out the Air Filter
In some cases, inadequate airflow could be due to clogged air filters. As we’ve discussed before, changing out the air filters can make a tremendous difference. Let’s suppose that the last time you did so was last fall or winter; if so, it is high time to switch them out again.
Examine the Circuit Breaker
Tripped circuit breakers are an occasional nuisance. They can affect appliances, fixtures, and systems both inside your home and out. Resetting a circuit breaker is relatively easy, but you must proceed with caution to prevent electrical fires, accidental injuries, or other such mishaps.
Inspect the Air Vents
For most homeowners, the principle of “out of sight, out of mind” leads to mechanical flaws and problems that they don’t notice until it’s too late. That means that your ductwork matters more than you might think. Dust, dirt, mold, and pet dander can trigger your allergies and make everyone in your feel miserable when they don’t have to be.
