The AC is a great way to stay cool, but you also have to be mindful of how much power you are consuming. Here are some tips on how to make sure that your AC can do more with less.
Add One Degree
At first, you might not think this would work. But think about the temperature setting you leave your thermostat on all the time. If you’re planning on leaving the house for several hours, then naturally you would turn it down to help save energy. If you regularly set it to 70 degrees, then tick it up to 71 to keep the thermostat from kicking on and off throughout the day. At the very least, this will happen far less often.
Program Adjustments
Installing a smart thermostat can make a massive difference. That’s because, with the right app, you can determine when you want the thermostat to turn on and when it should stop running. Energy saving is the goal with this type of technology, so over time, the device will start to record your preferences.
Clean the Ducts
Make sure the ducts in your home’s HVAC system are kept as clean as possible. Sometimes, all this takes is replacing the air filters. In other cases, you will need a professional technician to come and clean out the ducts and ensure that the ductwork functions as it should.
Schedule Timely Maintenance
One last piece of advice when it comes to your AC unit and saving money and energy is to schedule timely maintenance. All of the components need to be cleaned out, the electrical connections need to be fixed, and replacing worn down parts is necessary and can’t be overlooked.
