Here at W.E. Kingswell, our slogan is “no problems, just solutions,” and you can hold us to that promise. Even though the days still feel cold, temperatures in the upper-60s should be stabilizing by the end of this week. Even with the region’s unpredictable weather patterns, winter’s chill is almost totally gone from these parts. Turn your attention to the condition of your home’s HVAC system – if there are any unusual heating or cooling issues, let’s get them resolved right away!
Move the Air Around with Your Vents
The first thing you’ll want to do is adjust your air vents. Vents that are filthy or clogged won’t work as well as they are supposed to; the same principle applies to the registers. Furniture, dust, and debris (like dirt particles or pet dander) can build up more quickly than you might think. Try opening and closing the vents on all levels of your home.
Reset the Fan Mode from Auto to On
Another useful trick to try is quite simple: Reset the fan mode setting from “auto” to “on” instead. Modern thermostats are easier to adjust to your liking. When you’re dealing with uneven home cooling, such a feature can be a real lifesaver. The “on” setting allows the air to continue circulating even after the cooling cycle is done.
Schedule Air Leakage Inspections
We urge you to schedule timely inspections. They cannot only reveal unexpected air leakages, but they can also indicate more profound problems affecting your entire HVAC system. Damaged ducts won’t work as efficiently, and as such, you’ll notice odd fluctuations in your energy bills. Your central air system is working double-time to make up for the lost air, which is driving up your power bills.
Replace Aging Insulation in Your Attic
Unfortunately, the attic is one area that falls into the trap of “out of sight, out of mind” for most homeowners. That said, from time to time, you will need to venture up there to look at the condition of its existing insulation. Replace any insulation that you see has rotted or worn out. Likewise, do your homework and brush up on the recommended R-Values to get the most of the new materials that you lay down.
