Replacing the commercial HVAC systems in your building can be a significant investment. That’s why instead of a complete replacement you might choose to have repairs done. But how do you know when it’s time to stop the repairs and just replace the system?
Look at the Records
The first thing you will want to do is examine the history of the system. Take some time to look over maintenance records. If your building is more than twenty years old, then it’s likely that the commercial HVAC systems haven’t been upgraded yet. If the systems are more than twenty years old, then it’s time to replace them. Newer technology is more efficient, which can help you save money in the long run.
Look at the Bills
You’ll also have to evaluate energy efficiency. Becoming more and more energy-efficient not only helps your business grow, but it also helps you save money. All the money that you save in this area can be redistributed to expanding your service area and serving more customers. Look at how the system has performed over the last five years, and then how it has done over the last decade. If it has been using more energy than it should, then you will see a trend as the years go by. So if the bills are unacceptably high, you should strongly consider a replacement.
Look at the Costs
Weighing the costs of the current system setup goes beyond looking at your company’s energy bills. Have you needed to spend more time having your systems inspected and repaired by your HVAC contractor? How many times has there been an emergency involving the HVAC system, resulting in lost business or days where you had no choice but to close and send your employees home? Ultimately, deciding when the costs get too high is the biggest way to decide whether repairs can still cut it or if you need replacements instead.
