5 Suggestions for Homeowners Struggling to Stay Cool as Summer Approaches

These unpleasant weather forecasts will continue to vary as June comes along, and summer rides its coattails.

It’s possible to save money and beat the heat at the same time. If you and your family are feeling overheated as the end of May rolls around, you’re not alone. These unpleasant weather forecasts will continue to vary as June comes along, and summer rides its coattails. We’ve assembled this quick guide on how to keep your cool without breaking the bank

Get a Whole-House Fan

At first, getting a whole-house fan probably sounds like odd advice. But we assure you, it can make a world of difference for your in-home comfort levels. This upgrade will bring in more fresh air from outside while pushing out the stale and stuffy air accumulated inside. These fans are much more effective than their conventional counterparts, and they’re also more energy-efficient to boot.

Look into Ventilating the Attic

Going into the attic rarely sounds like anyone’s idea of a good time. Even if you have a basement or garage space for extra storage, you could still need to use the attic to keep off-season clothes and accessories. Although it might not seem like it at first, ventilating the attic makes a remarkable difference.

Use Ceiling Fans to Minimize Energy Demand

Take a minute to consider where the ceiling fans in your home are located. Suppose there are only two: one placed in the living room and another in the main bedroom. Ceiling fans operate by moving air around; they also lower indoor temperatures and relieve some of the burdens on your HVAC system.

Consider Switching to Ductless AC Units

Ductless AC units bring several benefits to your household as well. Each room can have its own control panel for temperature settings. This setup means that everyone can live comfortably without being too hot or too cold. The split in the air conditioner design means that the compressors are not close enough to make a disruptive amount of noise. Plus, these systems come with remote controls, which makes changing the settings as needed a snap.

Upgrade Your Air Conditioner

In the end, you could decide to upgrade your existing air conditioner. Let’s say that it is 15 years old by now – if that’s the case, it could be reaching the end of its expected service life. Older models are unlikely to be as efficient as their modern counterparts are. One more thing: pay attention to the SEER rating that you find.
