As we enter August, it’s not surprising that some of the hottest summer weather is still hanging around. In fact, August tends to be hotter than June and July are. How cool is your home? Maybe your air conditioner is struggling. Sometimes, replacing your AC unit is the answer that you are looking for. Is your home too warm? In that case, here’s what you can do about it.
Try Moving the Air Around
Circulation is key. Without proper circulation, both levels of your home will feel hotter than they actually are. Part of the problem comes from vents that filthy or are too clogged to have any sort of effect. That’s why you need to keep the vents and filters cleaned out. Move furniture away from the vents, as well. Is your home too dusty? Then you’ll want to address that. One way to fix this problem is to actually close some of the vents on the first floor of your home. We know this sounds like odd advice, but just trust us on this. Only close the vents part of the way. By doing this, you can push the air upstairs and balance out pressure differences between the levels of your home, which can give you some much-needed relief.
Turn Up the Fan
Another idea is to simply turn up the fan. The thing is, it’s not just the standard room fan that you’ll be manipulating, although that will certainly help. What you’ve got to do is play around with the fan setting on your AC unit. Switch it from “auto” to “cool.” this gets air moving, especially if you turn on ceiling fans and stand fans at the same time. If you leave the auto setting engaged, then all it does is switch the AC unit on if the outside unit isn’t running right now. This can be a problem, especially if you don’t have any outside AC units to rely on.
